Comedian and presenter Chris Fitchew has been busy – with TV projects, a production company and his own comedy nights Laughing the Roof Off (Monthly at Kensington Roof Gardens), Cocktails, Canapés and Character Comedy (monthly at The Soho Sanctum Hotel) and his new monthly residency hosting queer comedy night FITS & GIGGLES at the RVT (starting Wednesday 10th April). All this, together with his foray up to Edinburgh and Brighton fringe comedy festivals with his award winning one man show ‘Jack of All Trades’, he’s on fire! Here he takes time to celebrate all things that make him go bent double with laughter…

MY TOP 5

LIVE The best gay stand ups on the circuit

Zoe Lyons – The fast and furious queen of dyke comedy with her amazing voices, hilarious observations and beautiful banter: always spot on. See her back at the RVT on Wednesday 10th April.

Scott Capurro – I love that Scott has not got a single hole barred. It’s always a delight to see the reaction he gets out of an audience.

Jen Brister – Her last one woman show was a tour de force – Jen is cooking on gas right now: she needs to get that stiletto in the TV door.

Paul Sinha – The award winning Asian gay comic is very dry, very sarcastic, and very un-gay, actually, but still one of us! We could probably take him home to our parents as he’s such a gentleman… Judging by his set though we probably couldn’t go to his.

TVThe best gay comedians on our telebox

Alan Carr – Still stunning to see him live, but it’s always so nice to catch him bantering with the stars on his couch, putting them at ease with his cheesy cocktails. It’s so funny when you see him getting tipsy as his verbal tirade has no censor, but he’s always endearing and bloody funny!

Matt Lucas – The funnier, more talented one from the wee Britain show has gone on to do some great projects including his own chat show, which is growing on us all. Three Lucas highlights – Bubbles de Vere, the Coffee Lady in Come Fly With Me and Thenardier in Les Miserables.

Paul O Grady – Of course, Lily is our favorite but some of the sharp one-liners that Paul fires out on daytime TV whilst we know he’s having to censor everything can be comedy gold!

Graham Norton – Mr Cheeky Chappy has had an outstanding career switching from channel to channel whenever he gets bored, but maintains his sharp quick-witted tirade of really funny quick-witted gags.

Sue Perkins – Yes, her recent sitcom was a bigger flop than the dead cats she was having dramas with but still; good on her for being the first lezza main character in a British sitcom.

MUSICAL/CHARACTER COMEDIANS

Charlie Hides – Internet sensation Mr Hides is the hardest working character comedian on the block. I think come Sunday 7th April you will see a roadblock in Vauxhall with fans trying to catch Madonna and gang at the RVT with his new weekly residency.

Dixie Longate – Hailing from the US we only get to see her once in a while when she sails through the UK with her side-splitting Tupperware rep act – you just have to see this comedy genius!

Frisky & Mannish – OK, well, not entirely gay but just the Queen and, er, Queen of musical comedy. Love them.

Tina C – I’ll never forget seeing Tina C for the first time when a little bit of wee came out! The last time I saw her a lot of wee came out… I’m sure it’s because she’s getting funnier and not that I have bladder issues.

Adam Kay – Musical wizard Adam has been storming Edinburgh these last few years and is ready for a complete set this year, see him at the RVT on 10th April.

• Chris Fitchew’s FITS & GIGGLES be at the RVT (372 Kennington Lane, Vauxhall, SE11 5HY) on Wednesday 10th April, and weekly thereafter. Doors 6pm, show 7.30pm. £8.
