When you’re a-skipping and a-running down the Charing Cross Road from now on, you may have noticed an intriguing looking emerald-lit haunt, with elegant garden furniture outside, an oasis amongst the hustle and bustle of Central London. Inside, you’ll find the most beautiful mural in the whole of Soho shining upon the wall and a décor of regency glitz meets contemporary sexiness. This is Bar Titania and we were determined to find out more by speaking to owner Odette…
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m no spring chicken! I’m an accountant, but not a suit: I’m arty and love design and hospitality… We as a firm specialize in the hospitality industry.
What’s the ethos of Bar Titania? What kind of niche is it bringing to the Soho gay scene?
Our ethos is to provide well priced drinks in a relaxed and comfortable environment, with great music. Our passion is to showcase and to develop young artists. We have already had some success in this area.
What is the typical Bar Titania customer like?
There is no real typical customer, we have young men from 18 to our other young men of 80, I suppose there is one overall connecting thread that they like, and that is quirky and individual, which I think BT is.
What drinks and food do you offer?
We have a great selection of beers, wines and spirits including bottled Craft Beers and all our cocktails are freshly made (no premixes). We also serve great coffee and a selection of teas. We have a selection of freshly made British classic hot sandwiches including salt beef, fish fingers and sausage & onions and on Sundays a choice of roast chicken with all the trimmings plus Roast of the Day. As a complete contrast on Thursday and Friday we have a fabulous selection of authentic Italian Aperitivo.
Where did the wonderful mural of Titania come from? Who was the artist behind it?
A client of ours, who owns an art gallery, recommended the artist; he is a very talented street artist named Tom Blackford (inkfetish.co.uk) It took him three and a half days up a scaffolding tower with loads of cans of spray paint, but it was amazing to watch our lovely girl develop!
And finally, what are we most likely to catch you sipping from when you’re enjoying a tipple at the bar?
A Pinkster gin and tonic or an Aperol spritzer or maybe a wonderful glass of Lambrusco Rosso…
TITANIA’S FACES
Bar Titania has some of the most interesting and charismatic singers and hosts in gay town at your pleasures, here are some of their pretty faces with why they’ve made Titania their home from home…
Chris Royal: ‘Stylish, sexy, classic. The style of music I do is anything from old school classics to modern soul. Singing at the bar every week means a lot to me as it was one of my first jobs in London when I moved from Manchester. Now I don’t see it as a job it’s like I am there entertaining family. The bar is a breath of fresh air with wonderful and caring owners.’
‘I love the bar and I think it’s great that we give new talent a West End showcase through Titty Idol’ – David Stinson, host of Titty Idol on Thursdays
Andrea Gorse: ‘A jazzy souly cabaret night in the most fabulous venue in Soho, where I feel at home and dreams come true.’
