Dark Fabrics Cabaret is bringing back the tradition of the variety show to Dalston basement club Vogue Fabrics on Sunday 15th December. Its aim is to showcase some of the most exciting, engaging and thought-provoking theatrical artists and performers from around London at the moment, in a welcoming atmosphere with a little whiff of Parisian fin-de-siècle glamour lingering about its lilies. A mixture of immersive spectacle and theatrical story-telling is promised, amongst plenty of festive laughter…
Your hostess for the evening will be the (truly) inimitable Patricia Primarché – also known as Trashbag Trish – who has wanked herself down from the Blackpool Pleasure Beach especially for the evening.
Luke & Harry, a comedic double-act renowned at the Edinburgh Festival for their unique sell-out shows, invite you to join them for their interactive gameshow ‘Journey to Sex Colony 01’. Then Silk Worm, a London-based performer and story-teller, brings the gods of West African mythology to the Vogue stage via the modern technology integration of computers and projection, and a vivid performance style.
Renowned artist Charlie Tuesday Gates, who continues to push the boundaries of taste, ethics and the subject of controversy itself, will be showcasing an extract from her new musical ‘Sing for Your Life’, utilising self-made taxidermy puppets – life being the ultimate parody.
Professor Jack EJ Cole presents the best parts of Dumblove Encounters, a dramatic project versed in the Theatre of Kindness and Holistic Entertainment. And then don’t miss the spectacularly sexy Lady Nina who does things with a pole that will make your ears steam… Before inviting an audience member up to the stage to try their hand at learning the beautiful art of pole-dancing.
The inspiration behind this night is to give talented new acts a platform in which their high-energy takes on contemporary arts and theatre can really shine. They’re aiming to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere which is not afraid to tackle any subject in its ideas, but also ultimately full of festive good spirit. It’s going to be wild, it’s going to be scintillating, and it’s going to be a hell of a lot of fun!
• Dark Fabrics Cabaret is at Vogue Fabrics (66 Stoke Newington Road, Dalston, N16 7XB) on Sunday 15th December at 7pm. £5 entry.
