Queer Nation has been running successfully in London for many years now and its quintessential brand of hot soulful house, laidback and welcoming atmosphere and some of the hottest in-the-know boys around the gay London block mean that it will go on doing so for many years to come! We caught up with resident DJ Mista Pierre to find out what to expect from their next big sizzling party…
What can a newcomer expect from this weekend’s Queer Nation?
A warm, friendly, attitude free atmosphere with plenty of welcoming smiling faces, coupled with wholesome, uplifting, revitalizing party music. Remember that? Let’s bring it back!
Why do you think the brand has been so successful? How long have you been resident for?
Yikes, I’ve been resident since 2004! QN’s success and brand I put down to the music and the people. You can come as you are: Primark or Prada, chinchilla or flammable polyester it does not matter! It’s a place where discerning clubbers go to hear good music with soul and melody. Believe me the QN crowd know their stuff, they keep me on my toes, they have high standards in music and the DJs ability to rock the crowd.
What kind of music will you be playing on the night?
Well, we’ll have new releases, house classics, disco, a little Latin flavour and, of course, the QN favourites. In essence, the kind of music you can really enjoy even if you haven’t heard it before!
Describe your typical Queer Nation boy!
Aw gawd… To be honest it straddles the breadth of all races and cultures from the cute urban chic boy to the buff Tonka toy bear with fruit pastille nipples, but it’s usually something in between!
And finally, what gets Mista Pierre grooving when he’s out and about?
I love the The Joiners Arms: it’s the place to be in East London! Sunday Happy Day is a really nice place to boogie, chill and meet nice people. DJs Ain Bailey, Ben Jamin and Markus always turn the party out!
• Queer Nation will be at Barcode (69 Albert Embankment, Vauxhall, SE1 7DP) on Saturday 14th December, 10pm-6am.
