We are in the midst of London’s horniest week of the year, Recon’s Fetish Week London. Dozens of affiliated theme parties all leads up to a mighty climax at the Full Fetish main event this weekend. Recon Events Manager Antoin Strachan speaks to QX…
How has Recon’s Fetish Week London grown over the past few years?
We started Fetish Week London five years ago. We’ve always had a vision that it would grow to become one of the world’s top ‘Men Only’ fetish events, but remained realistic that it would take time to build on its reputation. Since the very first event, we’ve tried and tested a number of things – themed parties, change in venue locations, introducing new equipment to build our playrooms and mazes. Our punters get more demanding and their expectations change; we have to step up and meet the challenge. Having the addition of things like the Fetish Week Dinner, The Soho Social and this year’s film screening and the Premium Welcome Party is a part of the evolution of Fetish Week London and its continued growth.
Are more people visiting from other countries?
Five years on, it continues to evolve and is fast becoming one of the most popular destination fetish events. London isn’t the most economic when it comes to hotel rates, but if you have a strong brand and an amazing event, people will travel for it. I think we’re continuing to succeed as each year we see a growth in the number of international visitors. Guys are flying in from Japan, Australia, Canada, all across Europe and the US. Last night at the Premium Welcome Party I spoke to a group of friends that came in from Brazil.
There are lots of niche events on but Full Fetish is the big one. How is this year’s event going to out-do previous parties?
This year’s Full Fetish party is definitely going to be our biggest – to date. We’re expanding on production value with the largest LED screen at any fetish event, introducing sponsors like Folsom Street Events, playrooms by RoB London and Expectations, an amazing pup play area and a very exclusive VIP room, which is being sponsored by the Recon store. There are a lot of new elements and I’m already thinking about how we can do even better in 2015.
“As younger guys come out of the fetish closet, they’re embracing not only what’s affordable, but what they also look hottest in.”
Which DJs are playing?
Music has always been an important part of the success of our events and this year I think we’ve got an absolutely amazing line-up. Spencer Reed opens the Full Fetish party, followed by M Carranco, who’s also one of the most well-known DJs in Spain and is the organizer of the Sleazy Madrid Weekend and the Into The Tank party. Then we have our longest and favourite DJ – Jack Chang. Per QX will bring down the walls of the Coronet to close the party. In keeping with creating a unique atmosphere, this year we’re going with a completely different vibe in the VIP room as DJ Zaman introduces an Ibizan Café del Mar feel.
What dress codes are most popular?
Both rubber and sports gear continue to be at the top of the popular dress code trend. Understandably, as younger guys come out of the fetish closet, they’re embracing not only what’s affordable, but what they also look hottest in. Anyone who goes to the Sports Party or the Rubber party would agree with me…
The guys are simply fucking HOT!
DJ Spencer Reed’s ‘Full Fetish’ Top 5 for Recon Fetish Week
1. Josh Wink – ‘Are You There’
(Ben Klock Remix)
A true big room classic recently remixed by a true techno genius. This track is just full on hammer with cool vocals and lots of sexy percussion.
2. Nicole Moudaber – ‘Do Your Thing’ (Original Mix)
A deep and melodic track that was supposedly produced with the name having a literal meaning. Just do your thing and be who are you. It’s something I try to translate through all my music.
3. Beaverhausen – ‘Genosys’
(Original Mix)
I’ve personally tried and tested track of London’s dancefloors and always well received. Has that classic pumping tech-house sound that I love.
4. Pagano – ‘Breaking Bad’
(Original Trompeta De Tuco Mix)
A huge tribal track with banging drums perfect for a big room with very sexy horns in the breaks.
5. Trentmoller vs Boka Shade – ‘Moan Language’ (Sabb Remix)
A warm, deep and slow building track bringing that dark fetish vibe perfect for setting the tone for the night.
