Sandra

“I remember the first year, when it was nothing more than a tiny stage outside Kazbar. In ten years it has blossomed into one of the most unmissable cabaret events of the year: Claphams’ version of Glastonbury.”

Miss Jason

“It’s a camp old day when we all come together for lots of fun and laughter! And it’s all so well organised – except for that tiny tent we get changed in. There’s so much hair lacquer in there, we almost asphyxiate; although, I’m sure it improves some of the performances! The audience can be the judge of that [laughs]. There’s always a ‘Loose Woman’ floating about too, and I’m a huge fan; I want to be one when I grow up.”

Lady Imelda

“I’ve been performing at the Clapham Street Party since the very first year, and what I love most about it is the community spirit and atmosphere. All the acts, who put into that community, and the audiences that support you, come together for a one-off spectacular. There’s so much warmth on the day too, both backstage and out front.”

Angie Brown

“Having never taken part, I’m really looking forward to my debut this year. I grew up around Stockwell, Brixton and Clapham, so it’s going to be such a pleasure to play on home ground. I’m sure it’ll be a great day, hopefully with lots of sunshine, too”

Katherine Ellis

“I performed last year, too, and it was a great day, full of fun, with a fantastic crowd. Craig Maritza is the perfect host and one of my favourite promoters. He simply can’t do enough to make his artists feel happy and loved. This year it falls on my husband’s birthday, so we are looking forward to a day of celebrating with everybody, as well as performing my biggest hits, and the title track to the new BIMBO JONES album: ‘Go Naked’, which I performed for the first time alongside Marc JB at Glastonbury last week.”

La Voix

“The buzz of performing at outside gigs is always special because the crowd are really up for a good time. At my first Street Party (2012) I was totally exhausted from the Drag Idol final the night before and with no time to prepare I was in a right tizz, flinging things all over the place backstage, trying to get ready. It’s so daunting and surreal at first, because if you’re lucky enough to win Drag Idol, all of a sudden, you’re instantly on the bill with a whole host of legendary acts. This year I’m very excited to be joined by my Va Va Voom boys, so expect fun fun fun.”

Martha D’Arthur

“Last year was my first appearance, straight after my Drag Idol win. It was all so hazy because I hadn’t slept in three days. The rush of sound from the crowd (5,000 people) was stupendous! Everything was so overwhelming, and I was trying not to burst most of the time. I’m looking forward to remembering much more this time round [laughs].”

• Clapham Street Party is Saturday 5th July, from 1pm – 9.30pm at Edgeley Road, Clapham, SW4.
