It’s queer indie night Rebel Rebel’s last night on Saturday! It makes us want to down a bottle of whiskey or smash a guitar over our heads or something. Oh well, we’re wearing skinny jeans. That’s enough.

Anyway in honour of one of the city’s coolest gay nights taking its final bow, we asked their resident DJ’s Phil Bakstad, Anthony Crank, Alexis Caught and the Rebel 7 to pick their most memorable moments from all Rebel Rebel’s various dastardly nights of debauchery. There are some right corkers! From David Furnish showing up to fireworks going off inside in the middle of a Morrissey record.

  1. Our Halloween party at Bloomsbury Ballroom with 800 people dressed up as dead rock stars. There was a competition to find the best one. We picked a winner (who oddly looked like he was dressed as Sherlock Holmes) who then whipped his coat open and turned out to be a flasher!
  2. The night we had the Rebel Reunion party which coincided with the anniversary of Amy Winehouse’s parting, which turned temporarily into an impromptu vigil with candles when somebody played ‘My Tears Dry On Their Own’.
  3. David Furnish coming to the club and asking ‘please will you book my wife to DJ here? She would love it’. Needless to say, Elton never showed up.
  4. Our mega NYC inspired ‘Uptown Downtown’ party with Horse Meat Disco. We bought hundreds of pairs of sunglasses made out of glow sticks and gave them out to everybody to wear and then realised they were melting in the heat – all down people’s faces.
  5. Recruiting David, the super handsome but super straight barman from The Phoenix to do our door and watching everyone chat him up each month and wonder why they were getting nowhere.
  6. Our New Years Eve party which was plunged into silence and darkness in the middle of a Morrissey record as our indoor fireworks did a bit more than they were supposed to and practically blew the place up.

• The last ever Rebel Rebel is at The Phoenix, 37 Cavendish Square, W1G 0PP. 9pm – 3am. Tickets from £10.
