Gay boxing! We think of everything don’t we, us gays. A society or group or party for EVERY OCCASSION. Yes! Now, boxing is not as aggressive as everyone thinks. It’s not just about masc male posturing. With its fast-paced feel and easy accessibility, it’s becoming an increasingly popular exercise activity for busy urban socialites.

It’s a proven stress release…pummeling the living daylights out of a punchbag is a great way to assuage your anger at injustices in the world. Like Donald Trump, or war, or rent, or the fact that there still isn’t a music video for Me & My Girls by Selena Gomez.

Knockout Gay Boxing Club was started to provide a safe space for LGBT people who like boxing. We spoke to one of the founders, Phil Bradby, and asked him to give us a bit more info.

“We are a new friendly boxing club for lesbian, gay, bi and trans people and their friends,” he said “We are not-for-profit group for the gay community.

“Boxing is great for all round fitness and is a lot of fun. The group is very welcoming so people don’t need to be nervous about trying the sport for the first time. We are happy to welcome people of all levels including beginners.”

“No special clothes are needed, just shorts and a tee. We can lend people gloves but encourage regulars to get a pair of there own as they can get a bit sweaty!”

“It’s a training class (rather than a sparring class) so people do not need to fear being hit or injured and we all go to the pub after to cool off”

• Knockout Gay Boxing Club trains every Thursday from 7-8.30 pm in Studio 2 of Sobell Leisure Centre, Hornsey Road, N7 7NY. Afterwards we go for a drink in the local pub. Training is £7.50, or £5 for students and low waged.
