Lady Leshurr, David McAlmont and more to play Croydon’s fourth Pride festival
Often pegged as London’s little brother, Croydon has a community spirit all its own. For the fourth year, they’re showing their love for the LGBT+ folks in their community by letting their colours fly. On Saturday, 13th July they’re gearing up for their biggest Croydon Pride spectacular to date.
The Parade
Midday
What would a Pride be without a parade! Giving the queer folks and allies in the community a chance to show their colours, the parade is always a spectacle that you need to make sure you grab a front row spot for. Groups will start marching at midday from Lower Church Street and will be landing at PrideFest in Wandle Park where the main festival will just be getting started.
Croydon PrideFest
12pm – 10pm
After the Pride Parade winds down, the PrideFest kicks off at Wandle Park. Bringing party and performance to the park are a host of performers and presents who’ll be keeping the party going all through the afternoon. There’ll be plenty to explore, from street food to stalls.
Performing at PrideFest
It’s still all very hush-hush, but the rumours are spreading like wildfire. There are a few performing slots on the PrideFest stage that have yet to be released, but going by the performers we know are already performing, it’s set to be a RAGER.
One of the biggest personalities on the drag scene is Son of a Tutu has an undeniable charm. She set the London scene ablaze after landing back in 2003, and since then has maintained momentum. She’s a staple at Prides across the British Isles, and now she’s crashing onto the Croydon stage knees first. Joining her on stage will be some ABBA! Because who doesn’t love Abba? Abalicious are considered to be the UK’s best Abba tribute duo.
After celebrating 30 years in the industry, Kym Mazelle is taking to the PrideFest stage to serve up a healthy dose of R&B, Disco and Soul. Her fresh inter-genre music has landed her the title of the “First Lady of House Music”, and catch any of her live sets to see why. She’s worked with some of the biggest names in the business, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Mick Jagger, Grace Jones and Chaka Khan. A London resident, she’s one of the cities, best-loved performers.
Cabaret performer Danny Beard is also bringing his singing chops to the PrideFest stage, sure to sway the crowd into a Scouse frenzy. After clutching victory at Drag Idol back in 2015, Danny’s been working across the UK, even landing in the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent. She’ll be onstage at 6:15pm, so keep an eye out.
The After Party
10pm – Late
There’s always an after party! You thought you’d just go home and wash that glitter off? Nah, babes. Keep the party going with the official PrideFest after party at Twilight Bar which pops off at 10pm. They’ll be blasting out the cabaret, pop and disco into the early hours so be sure to get in on the action. There are only a select few tickets up for grabs, 150 in fact, so be sure to book as soon as possible. All proceeds from ticket sales will help to keep Croydon PrideFest a free event for everybody.
