Welcome to Drag Idol 2022, one of the longest running drag competitions in the UK.
Drag Idol, now in its 17th year, is one of the only competitions on the LGBTQ+ circuit that launches careers for its winners. Now spanning 17 venues nationwide from Edinburgh, Cardiff, Brighton, Manchester and London to name a few.
Drag Idol is an all-encompassing competition that features a rainbow of drag performers competing to win the crown and launch them on the vibrant and forward looking drag scene we now have in the UK.
This year’s competition will be represented by Son Of A Tutu, herself a Drag Idol winner from 2011. Son Of A Tutu is a hugely successful artist on the drag cabaret circuit as well as an actor (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie), sought after host (think QX Cabaret Awards!) and activist.

Tutu has been involved with Drag Idol for some years already as a host and this year they are the representative of the competition and will host the launch, all the semi-finals and Grand Final as well as having input to the competition.

About Drag Idol 2022
Drag Idol started at the legendary Black Cap and was conceived by Titti La Camp and Jimmy Smith, the then landlord of the Black Cap (now manager of The Two Brewers, Clapham).
The idea was to find new talent for the Cap and help them on their way to a drag career. The competition was an overnight success from the beginning and saw other venues wanting to come on board which eventually led to it becoming a national competition.
Some of the past winners include Son Of A Tutu (Everybody’s talking about Jamie), Felix LeFreak, Baga Chipz (Rupaul UK S1), Karla Bear and Louis Cyfer to name a few. But you don’t need to win to launch a career, Tia Kofi, Danny Beard, Sumtingwong, Victoria Scone, Alfie Ordinary were all finalists and had their careers helped through participation with Drag Idol.
