A queer (almost) love story with just a sprinkle of… racism? That’s A Splash of Milk. Following its hugely successful run at both Camden Fringe 2022 and at The Hope Theatre, Pink Milk Theatre brings A Splash Of Milk to the 96 Festival 2023 at Omnibus Theatre, running from Thursday 15th to Saturday 17th June 2023.
Sunny is queer, brown and back, living with their parents after a bad few years in London. Does this make them depressed? Maybe. But they have some hilarious stories to tell! Well… they can laugh at them, but you can’t (depending on your milk vs melanin ratio).
Back home in their childhood bedroom, will their quest to find love be fruitful or end in disaster like so many times before?
Pink Milk told QX, “A Splash of Milk follows Sunny on a journey from their childhood bedroom to several individual experiences of racism and ignorance queer people of colour have faced. These experiences are filled with humour, sass and hard-hitting truths, exposing the racism Sunny has faced and challenging the audience to walk the fine line that is satirical humour.”
With A Splash of Milk’s involvement at the 96 Festival, they hope it’ll spark conversation among their audiences. They continue, “We want to relate to those of the queer global majority who have similar stories and educate white queer and non-queer people alike about the varying levels of racism that are faced by today’s queer people of colour.” And there’s a Content Warning as the play includes sexual language, racism, and slurs.
