Greenwich Theatre presents its second in-house production of 2023, a limited three-week run of Philip Ridley’s thrilling, heartbreaking, and darkly humorous play, Vincent River. This production marks the theatre’s continued return to producing after recent successful in-house productions by Caryl Churchill, Michael Frayn, and Mike Bartlett.
Vincent River is a tense game of cat and mouse set in London’s East End, exploring hate crime, prejudice, and the redemptive power of storytelling. The play examines the things we broadcast about ourselves and the things we strive to hide. It premiered in 2000 and was a West End smash hit in 2007 and 2018, making it one of the most powerful explorations of hate crime ever written.
The play stars Kerrie Taylor as Anita and Brandon Kimaryo as Davey. Kerrie Taylor is known for her work on TV shows such as Hollyoaks, Where The Heart Is, and The Bay, as well as her stage performances in Bad Nights and Odd Days and The Dumb Waiter and A Slight Ache at Greenwich Theatre. Brandon Kimaryo is currently studying at Guilford School of Acting and has worked on BBC films such as Searching for Cowardice.
Artistic Director James Haddrell brings Philip Ridley’s unique voice to the stage, fusing heartbreaking realism with the symbolism of a visual artist and the lyricism of a poet. Ridley will be involved in the production process to ensure the story is told the way he intended.
During the run of Vincent River, Greenwich Theatre will be collecting donations for AKT. AKT is a charity supporting LGBTQ+ young people between the ages of 16 and 25 in the UK who currently live in a hostile environment, are facing homelessness, or are experiencing homelessness.
Greenwich Theatre will feature performances by LGBTQ+ artists in their bar/studio on Saturday nights.
