For those of you who are curious about the rich queer history of East London, Dan Glass will guide you. He’s the author of ‘Queer Footprints: A Guide to Uncovering London’s Fierce History’ and A Cache Of Diamonds is Dan’s guided tour of the queer East End.

Whitechapel, in particular, holds a treasure trove of stories that connect communities across class, religion, gender, and sexuality. Despite facing opposition from authorities seeking to suppress public queer life, these communities have persevered for centuries. Don’t be deceived by the narrow streets of our pilgrimage – the impact of queer life here is so significant that it reverberates around the world.

The tour offers invaluable insights into creating spaces that honour our queer history. Discover the contributions of the Bethnal Green Acid Drag Commune, Rainbow Tree, Red Lesbian Brigade, Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, East London Suffragettes, The Gay Marxist Group, Muslim LGBT+ Network, Miss Muff’s Molly House, Emma Goldman, The Battle of Cable Street, and the Friends of the Joiners Arms, all of whom have played a part in shaping the queer utopia we all enjoy today.

Tours will commence at 12 pm on 24 September, starting from Brick Lane Bookshop, 166 Brick Lane, London E1 6RU, United Kingdom.
