As a dance music and disco vocalist, many of us will know Shèna Winchester under the name of 90s legends and Love Muscle xx all-time favourite, JX. With JX, Shéna secured no less than 5 top 20 hits with Love Muscle xx anthems like “Son Of A Gun”, “There’s Nothing I Won’t Do“, and “You Belong to Me“, all of which will be performed live at Love Muscle xx at Electric Brixton on Thursday 17 April 2025, 11 pm – 6 am.
To celebrate 30 years since Shèna first perfumed with JX at Love Muscle xx, the team got together and asked her a few questions about London.
What’s the best thing about London?
The best thing about London is the nightlife, the West End and the culture. London never sleeps.
What’s the worst thing about London?
The worst thing about London is the traffic, the London underground service on the weekends – particularly if it’s raining – and the congestion charge.
Where do you go to have fun?
I love to go to the theatre, comedy clubs, live music clubs, jazz clubs, Japanese, Chinese, and Thai restaurants, and cinemas. I also love to shop in London for anything from clothes to laptops and brand-new phones.
Where is the most relaxing place in town?
Covent Garden listening to opera singers or sitting in any of the many roof terraces in London, like the one in South Kensington.
Where is your favourite place for eats and drinks in London?
I love Benihana in Chelsea for eats and the expensive bar in Selfridges, which I believe is on the top floor. However, you need to re-mortgage your house to be able to afford to go to either of these places
If I could change one thing about London…
If I could change one thing about London, it would be the price it costs to live there. A complete overhaul of the London underground would be a close second.
What’s your favourite venue to play at and what makes it so special?
My favourite venue to play at is the Electric Brixton of course! It is quite local to me, the energy and atmosphere IS electric and I like to go where I’m celebrated.
The song that reminds you most of London?
I know it’s an oldie, but Parklife.
Tell us a London gem that everyone should know about
A London gem that everyone should know about is Little Venice, a peaceful canal area with pleasant houseboats, waterside cafés, and a scenic walk to Camden Market. Feels like a mini Amsterdam in London.
One thing everyone should do in London is?
The one thing everyone should do in London is, take a sunset walk along the South Bank. Start at Tower Bridge, stroll past Shakespeare’s Globe, and make your way to the London Eye. Stunning!
