Picture this: A whirlwind romance between a normal man and a giant tentacled death-god from beyond the stars. That’s the plot of a new queer horror-comedy by Reece Connolly that goes by the rather amusing title, given the plot, of SUCKER 4 U.

Young scholar Atticus East Esq. is aboard a ship sailing across Artic waters when it tragically sinks. Atticus is the sole survivor and he unexpectedly awakes in a vast abandoned necropolis in the murky depth’s. Here he encounters the city’s sole inhabitant, the dread tentacled elder god, Cthulhu. After a lustful night together an instant attraction is formed and so begins a dramatic and passionate affair that threatens to tear apart the very fabric of the universe.

SUCKER 4 U chops up the eldritch horrors of the Lovecraft mythos and mashes it up with all the hallmarks of a classic romantic tale. This is then poured into a slightly-broken transmutation machine nicked from a mad scientist’s laboratory, injected with some camp, colour, and cheekiness, and this – this brand-new play – is the mewling puckering [yet still bafflingly heartwarming] abomination that leaks out the other end.
