The Greenwich Street Party has a good number of runners this year, but there’s still time for last minute participants say the organisers! Plus, this year they’re raising money for prostate charity with all proceeds going to the charity via justgiving, and on the night they’ll be raising money for Galop – London’s leading anti-LGBT hate crime charity.
The race is named after Michael Joyce (aka Estee Applauder) who started the event many years ago, before he was tragically killed in a car accident in 2009. It was decided last year to devote the race to his name in his honour.
The Greenwich Street Party serves a number of important functions in the South East London gay calendar: bringing the community together in solidarity, for a celebration of diversity, a party like no other and a worthwhile opportunity to raise funds for great causes. In addition, it’s also the organisers’ way of giving something back to their much loved and valued community.
Paul Glenwright from The George & Dragon, says: ‘I’m delighted to showcase the finest cabaret London has to offer: the comperes for the evening are The Duchess and La Voix, we’ll be introducing Drag Idol winner 2014 LoUis CYfer, Tanya Hyde, Rose Garden, Miss Jason, Lola Lasagne, Sandra, Dave Lynn and, closing the show, Kelly Wilde. DJ Ian James will also be spinning the discs from 5.30pm, getting all in the party mood!’
At 10.30pm, a complimentary coach service will be provided to the George and Dragon where the party continues until 4am, with resident DJs Nik C and Ian James on the decks.
