Hi Wayne, it’s nice to meet you. Tell us something about yourself and your involvement with club nights.
I moved to London in 2013 and soon found a spiritual home at Eagle London. Since then, I’ve hosted club nights there, including monthly 90s dance party Rhythm of the Night and various ‘Ultimate’ events where we celebrate iconic artists who have a place in the hearts of LGBTQ+ clubgoers, including George Michael, Kylie and the Queen of Pop, Madonna.
You’re promoting the Ultimate Madonna party. Tell us about your passion for Madonna.
Madonna was always an icon to me, but after living with a friend a few years back (who is the biggest Madonna fan!) and receiving a full education on her career via many night YouTube marathons, I gained an even greater love for her wider catalogue of music and history of LGBTQ+ activism. It’s hard to think of another artist who has consistently supported our community, even before it was considered ‘popular’ to be called an ally. She really is the Ultimate icon, and I can’t wait to celebrate her at our Ultimate Madonna party!
You have the iconic Margo Marshall performing. What can we expect at Ultimate Madonna?
I’ve been lucky enough to work with Margo Marshall when we hosted two parties to celebrate Madonna’s 60th birthday in 2018. It’s safe to say she’s the go-to when it comes to providing stunning performances and iconic moments on stage. Her deep love for Madonna shines through, and I can’t wait to see what she and her dancers have planned for us! I can only say it’s not something any fan will want to miss!
What else are you passionate about?
I love creating exciting, welcoming parties that are genuinely inclusive. London’s LGBTQ+ nightlife has had challenges, especially post-COVID, so it’s more important than ever that we do everything possible to protect our spaces and support established, new and grassroots venues and events. I love creative collectives such as Loose Change (@loosechange.party on Instagram), who run events with a cause. I’ve been lucky to DJ at their previous parties, and the sense of community they create is so heartwarming.
What other projects do you have in the pipeline?
I’m excited to be working on plans for some more ‘Ultimate’ parties with Eagle London – watch this space! I’m also an Eagle resident DJ at their monthly pop, dance and indie night, 80:20. Paul Joseph, who runs that night and the legendary 80s night Athena, is a joy to DJ with, and he has some exciting plans for 80:20 this year! He’ll also be joining me on the decks on Friday, 31 January, where we’ll dig deep into our Madonna collections and play all the hits, b-sides, collabs, remixes and deep cuts!
