14/04/12: There seemed to have been a bubble of excitement leading up, throughout the week, to last Saturday.

On the night itself, excitement exploded into an excess crowd of men, craning their necks on Heaven’s main floor to catch a glimpse of the gay man’s alternative sweetheart, Marina Diamandis! Despite being announced as severely under the weather, like the Good Witch of the West, Marina fluttered on stage – amidst the metallic balloons – an image of dusty blonde brilliance and glittering tulle.

In her bridal ensemble, and honey-like East London accent having indulged the boys in a few warm words, Marina’s live band struck up the first beat and she powered into her trademark theatrical, perky indie-pop persona, ‘I Am Not A Robot’.

Marina’s electro-synth ditty, clinched the deal, quickly getting the crowd up in arms – and it seemed to be a case of action and reaction, with the sick songstress soon wielding a set of spontaneous shimmies and bops for the especially fired-up boys front-of-stage.

The racy, pitchy ‘Radioactive’ reached another crescendo with the crowd; followed by the gaspy, gauche anthem for perfectionists, ‘Oh No!’. Marina’s signature tune, a ode to USA high-life, ‘American Dream’, had us all braying at the rafters once again, before, finally, she launched into her latest offering – the unapologetic, pop strut-a-thon – ‘Primadonna’.

No sooner than the moment she strutted offstage did the surge begin for a kiss and cuddle with the beautiful crooner backstage, as clubbers bought the single fresh from behind the counter to be signed. Understandbly so, it seems Diamandis is definitely a gay’s best friend.
